Vero Beach Clinches Top Seed
Vero
Beach’s girls soccer team won its last district championship in 1986, but
the Fighting Indians are on track to end their 23-year title drought this
season.
“We are a young team that is realizing how hard work and being committed
to each other for 80-minutes can bring results." said head coach Jose Gibert.
"Earning the number one seed in District 6-6A in the last game before the
Christmas break was a great gift that my players gave to each other”.
Sarah Keville scored two goals and assisted on a third Wednesday as Vero
Beach blanked St. Lucie West Centennial 4-0 in a District 6-6A game at Port
St. Lucie High School.
Jackie Metz added a goal and assist, Kat McClain had a goal and Kayla
Evens an assist for Vero Beach (8-3-1, 3-0 district), which clinched the top
seed for the five-team district tournament in January.
Destiny Kelley made four saves in goal for the Indians’ fourth shutout.
After back-to-back losses to Palm Bay (2-0) and nationally ranked
Melbourne (7-0) in November, Vero Beach has outscored opponents 30-3 during
a 4-0-1 run.
Vero Beach needed just three minutes to break on top Wednesday, with Metz
heading a cornerkick into the near post
