TAMPA,
Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Although the UCF women's soccer team and LSU had
plenty of scoring chances, neither team could put one in the back of the net
in a 0-0 draw Friday at the USF Tournament in Tampa. Senior
Lynzee Lee picked up her first-career shutout in her second year with
the Knights as they moved to 2-1-1 on the season.
"We had the momentum in the first half and I think we deserved a result,"
said head coach
Amanda Cromwell. "We had a goal called back at one point when
Yvonne George had a great turn but they called her for offside. It was
very close, and that was pretty deflating. But LSU is a quality team, and
they had a shot that hit the crossbar in overtime. It was a fast-paced game
and in the end I think we got better tonight."
LSU (1-1-1) and UCF each had six corner kicks in the match, while the
Tigers outshot the Black and Gold 18-11 with each team taking at least three
in the two overtime sessions. George collected three shots on the evening to
pace all Knight players.
Both schools had opportunities to take the early lead, and although it
was UCF which outshot LSU in the first half, 5-4, the score remained 0-0 at
the break. After playing the first 12 minutes without a shot by either side,
the Knights attempted three-unanswered shots in a span of 4:30. The first
came from senior
Becca Thomas which was saved by keeper Mo Isam, the second was off the
foot of George and that sailed wide and the third came from freshman
Nicolette Radovcic which clanked off the crossbar.
While the offenses seemed to be finding their legs, inclement weather
rolled through the area, forcing a lengthy halftime delay.
When UCF and LSU got back to work after a break that lasted approximately
two hours, it was more of the same in the second half. However this time Lee
was put to work. Not having to make a save in the opening frame, the senior
keeper turned aside six shots in the second half.
The netminders had to both make a save in the first overtime, and Lee
tallied her eighth and final save in the second OT to preserve her shutout.
UCF's second and final match of the USF Tournament will get underway
Sunday at 2:30 p.m. vs. Florida International.
