MARBURG, Germany (May 26, 2010) – The U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team
drew 2-2 with the Germany U-23 WNT during an exhibition that at times
featured pouring rain.
The match featured a wild last five minutes of the first half as Germany
scored twice in a four-minute span, before Notre Dame forward Melissa
Henderson pulled one back at the stroke of halftime.
The USA out-shot Germany 12-6, but could not manufacture an equalizer until
the 82nd minute when UCLA’s Lauren Barnes took a free kick from about 25
yards out near the left sideline. She swung the ball into Notre Dame’s
Lauren Fowlkes who won a header, sending her shot into the upper corner.
