Three Moccasins Named to All-SSC
Women's Soccer Team
The
All-Sunshine State Conference women’s soccer team was announced on Thursday
and three Florida Southern Moccasins were a part of it.
Princess Haley,
Jackie Bachteler
and Alex Hoover
were all Second Team selections.
Haley is an All-SSC selection for the second year in a
row while leading the Moccasins with nine goals and 22 points. The junior
forward scored seven of those goals in SSC games, three of them
game-winners, and had at least two points in six of the Mocs’ eight
conference games. Only SSC Player-of-the-Year Teresa Brantley of Florida
Tech had more goals (8) and more points (17 to 16) during the conference
portion of the schedule. Haley now has 75 points in her career, only three
shy of the school record held by current assistant coach
Linda Hoglund.
She’s already broken the school record for career goals with a total of 31.
Bachteler is a first-time member of the all-conference
team, though the junior is in her third year as a starting midfielder for
the Moccasins. Though not one of Florida Southern’s top scorers, nor a
full-time member of the defense, Bachteler has excelled at both ends of the
field since her arrival three years ago. Often the player who initially wins
possession for the Mocs on the defensive end, she’s helped the Mocs post a
1.29 goals against average while facing six of the top 16 scoring teams in
the country. Bachteler has also set up several goals even when not directly
involved in the goal itself, doing so twice in the Mocs’ SSC Tournament
first-round game against Lynn, a 3-2 win by the Mocs in overtime.
Hoover is in her second year at Florida Southern after
being one of the top freshmen in the Sunshine State Conference in 2008. This
year, she became one of the league’s top players and is tied for the SSC
lead with 10 assists. The sophomore midfielder has a total of 16 points,
which included goals against Florida Tech and Saint Leo in conference play.
She also tied the school record of three assists in a game during the Mocs’
3-0 win at Eckerd, and already has 36 points in her two-year career.
The Moccasins return to the field on Friday in Winter
Park where they’ll square off against Florida Tech in the semifinals of the
SSC Tournament. Game time is 4:30 p.m., with the SSC Championship Game on
Sunday afternoon at 1:00.
