Thomas Repeats as C-USA Women's Soccer Offensive Player of
the Week
Senior midfielder scored three times in a pair of UCF victories.
ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com)
- Registering game-winning goals in UCF's victories at Rice and Houston last
weekend, senior
Becca Thomas (Burlington, Wash.) repeated as the Conference USA
Offensive Player of the Week the league office announced Monday. It was the
first time a UCF player earned the offensive award in back-to-back weeks
since it joined C-USA in 2005.
Thomas claimed her first-career C-USA weekly honor when she posted
game-winners vs. UTEP Oct. 9 and Colorado College Oct. 11. With two more GWG
in Texas, she has posted four-straight game-winning tallies to help UCF
climb to No. 12 in the national polls and notch a 12-3-1 overall record.
Meanwhile, the Knights are 7-1-0 and in sole possession of first place in
the league standings.
Opening up last week at Rice Oct. 16, Thomas ended a 1-1 tie in the 70th
minute by converting a scoring chance from inside the box for the 2-1
triumph. Two days later against the Cougars, she put UCF on the board in the
75th minute on a penalty kick to make it 1-0. While UH tied it about 10
minutes later, Thomas drew a foul in the box herself only 41 seconds later
and hit the back of the net on her second PK attempt of the match for
another 2-1 victory.
Thomas now ranks second on the team with 15 points on five goals and five
assists this season. For her career, she sits in sixth on the UCF all-time
list with nine game-winners.
The Knights will stay on the road when they travel next to SMU Friday and
Tulsa Sunday. The Black and Gold then closes out the regular season at home
with Senior Night Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.
