DeLand, Fla. -
Steson women's soccer coach Julie Orlowski has announced the addition of
eight athletes to the 2010 squad. These are excellent additions to a team
that finished the 2009 season with an 11-6-3 overall record and a #3
seeding in the A-Sun Tournament. The newcomers are listed below in
alphabetical order.
Ciarra Britt is a
forward out of T .DeWitt Taylor High School in Pierson, Florida. She was a
three-time team MVP who was named First Team All-Area as a senior and
earned All-County honor twice. Last year she helped lead her team to a
school record 12-6-2 finish. They were District Runners Up in both 2007
and 2008. Off the field Britt is a member of the National Honor Society,
Tomorrow's Leader, and is V.P. of the Beta Club.
Chelsea Cabarcas
is an attacking midfielder at Bayside High School in Bayside, NY. She was
on the roster for the Colombian National U17 team as well as the Eastern
ODP 92's. She plans to major in Biology at Stetson and then go on to play
pro soccer and become a cosmetic dentist.
Virginia Davis is
a local product out of DeLand High School. She played soccer and
participated in track and field for the Bulldogs. In soccer she was named
MVP and was the team captain as a junior and a senior. Off the field she
is a four-year honor roll student who finished in the top 10% of her
class. She chose Stetson so she could play Division I soccer and study
Biology.
Kaitlyn Jones is
a forward out of DeLand High School. She is the younger sister of current
Hatter midfielder Samantha Jones. Kaitlyn was the leading scorer for the
Bulldogs as a senior. She finished with 30 goals and 14 assists for 74
points. She tallied 150 career points with 57 goals and 36 assists. She
set a school record for the most points scored within a 10-game period.
Team won a District 6A championship. She plans to major in Psychology and
would like to become a criminal profiler after graduation.
Shanna Krysalka
comes to the Hatters from Forest High School where she and her team were
named the state 5A academic champions two consecutive years.
Sarah Matthews
Earned two varsity letters as a member of the Palmetto High School in
Palmetto, Florida. As a senior she was team captain and led the Tigers in
goals scored. She finished with 20 goals and 16 assists for 56 points.
Helped lead her team to the regional playoffs two consecutive seasons. Off
the field she is a member of the National Honor Society and is in the top
8% of her class.
Jennifer Raneri
is an All-Area midfielder out of Treasure Coast High School in Port St.
Lucie, Florida.
Alyssa Welsh is a
2009 NSCAA High School All-American from Bishop George Ahr High School in
Edison, NJ. As a junior she led her team to a 16-2-1 record and a Division
Championship. Her team reached the County Finals for the first time in 26
years. She earned Home News Player of the Year in 2009 and Star Ledger
County Player of the year in 2008. She earned All-Conference honors three
times, as well as All-Division and State ODP four times. She set school
records 42 goals as a senior, and 107 goals in her career. After
graduating Stetson she would like to become an elementary school teacher
and play soccer.
Stetson lost five
seniors from last year's team to graduation. The Hatters, however, return
some quality talent. Two-time A-Sun Offensive Player of the Year Tessa
Gavilsky who led the league in scoring, Katie Bitetto who was 5th in
scoring and led the A-Sun in assists, and three-year starting goalkeeper
Andrea Garavaglia who will provide senior leadership in 2010.
More additions to the 2010 squad may be yet
to come.
