Six Given Daktronics Women’s All-South Region Nod

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (November 17, 2009) -  Six women's soccer players were named to the 2009 Daktronics Women's All-South Region Team announced by Daktronics Tuesday morning.  Rollins places three student-athletes on the All-South First Team, as well as three with Second Team honors, marking the largest collection of Tars named to the Women's All-South Region Team in the program's history.

Earning First Team honors are Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Year Meagan Thomas, Charlotte Murrell, and Rachel Jakubowski, while Leah Hirsch, Jessica Mooney, and Chelsea Brady were given Second Team selections.  Hirsch collects her second career Daktronics All-South Region Second Team honors, while the remaining five Tars pick up their first ever Daktronics distinctions.

National leader West Florida headlined the squad for the second-straight season, with Player of the Year going to Argo forward Shakira Duncan.  Six other West Florida players join Duncan with First Team honors.

Four different schools were recognized on the First Team, while eight institutions were represented on the Second Team.  Joining Rollins on the Second Team selections were Florida Tech, Saint Leo, Lynn, and North Alabama with two selections apiece, while West Florida, Harding, and Barry each placed one.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing, and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.  The team is voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Tars head into the NCAA Division II Tournament's Sweet 16 this weekend, and travel to Jefferson City, Tennessee to take on No. 1 West Florida in the South Region Finals.  Kickoff against the Argonauts is slated for 4:00 p.m. at McCown Field.  Fans will be able to catch all of the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
