Ospreys Swoop Past Chanticleers, 4-0
Box Score
J ACKSONVILLE,
Fla. – The Osprey Classic came to
a close with a number of Ospreys scoring their first goals of the season.
UNF’s (1-2) 4-0 win against Coastal Carolina (1-1), today featured goals
coming from four different players.
After Friday’s match, head coach Linda Hamilton wanted to
come out and do things a little differently. For the Ospreys, things
couldn’t be better scoring seven goals this weekend.
In the first half play was sluggish, both sides combined for
three shots overall.
“At halftime, we made some adjustments,” said
Hamilton. “I just knew once we
got one a few more would follow.”
Senior forward Katelin Swift scored the first goal of the
game in the 54th minute, fighting past two defenders, before
finding the back left corner of the net.
“I think it’s a great way to start off the season,” said
Swift. “The team played great and we expect more to come during conference
play.”
Three minutes later, in the 57th minute, midfielder Elena
Luzins scored her first goal of her senior season after receiving a
deflected shot from Caitlin Kovacs.
“I thought the reserves were fantastic,” commented
Hamilton. “It really gave us some
extra energy being able to use the 10 players off the bench.”
Throughout the second half the Ospreys pressured the
Chanticleers testing their defense at every turn. In the 67th
minute freshman forward Michele Larrinaga, who was fresh off the bench,
scored her second goal of the season.
On the play, Larrinaga received an assist from Swift’s fast
break from midfield and a timely cross from the right side for the one-time
strike that beat the CCU keeper.
On the final goal, sophomore forward Maja Reichardt was able
to finish up UNF’s scoring after receiving a rebound off the crossbar to put
the Ospreys up four.
“I keep telling the girls that this team is a process and we
just have to go step-by-step and this is just another step getting their
first win of the season,” said
Hamilton.
UNF returns to action on Friday, Sept. 4, as they head across
town to participate in the Jacksonville University Tournament. The Ospreys
open the event against
Georgia Southern in a
match slated for 5 p.m
