Ocala Area Districts Info from
ocala.com
Schedule: Tuesday: No. 2 Gainesville Eastside vs. No. 7 Leesburg, 4 p.m.,
No. 4 Lake City Columbia vs. No. 5 Lake Weir, 6 p.m., No. 3 Gainesville vs.
No. 6 Vanguard, 8 p.m.; Wednesday: Eastside/Leesburg winner vs.
Gainesville/Vanguard winner, 5:30 p.m., No. 1 Forest vs. Columbia/Lake Weir
winner, 7:30 p.m.; Friday: Championship, 7 p.m.
Outlook: After making it to the postseason for three consecutive seasons,
Forest just missed out on a fourth a year ago, but look primed to make it
back this time around. The Wildcats were a perfect 12-0 in district play and
would not see No. 2 Eastside (9-2-1 in district play) or No. 3 Gainesville
(8-3-1) until the championship match. Last season, Forest played GHS to a
1-1 tie for 100 minutes, but lost 3-2 on penalty kicks in the district
semifinal match between the two. The third-seeded Hurricanes went on to
defeat No. 1-seed Eastside in the championship match. Lake Weir (3-8-1),
which went from the seventh seed to the fifth in the district from a year
ago, takes on Columbia in the opening round, while Vanguard (2-10) gets GHS.
The Knights’ only district wins this season came against Leesburg (2-10).
Class 4A-District 6
At Belleview High School
Schedule: Tuesday: No. 1 Inverness Citrus vs. No. 8 Dunnellon, 2 p.m.,
No. 4 Crystal River vs. No. 5 West Port, 4 p.m., No. 2 Lecanto vs. No. 7
Bushnell South Sumter, 6 p.m., No. 3 Belleview vs. No. 6 North Marion, 8
p.m.; Wednesday: Semifinals at 6 and 8 p.m.; Friday: Championship match, 7
p.m.
Outlook: The Rattlers (8-3-1 in district play) are looking to advance to
the postseason for the third consecutive season and sixth time this decade.
Standing in the way appear to be Inverness Citrus (12-0-2) and Lecanto.
Belleview has faced Lecanto in each of the past two 4A-6 championship
matches, with the teams splitting those contests. The Rattlers won in 2007,
while the Panthers, who didn’t suffer a loss until the regional semifinals,
earned the crown a year ago. Citrus, meanwhile, is looking to claim its
first district crown since 2006, when it knocked off Lecanto. Local schools
West Port (6-8), North Marion (4-10) and Dunnellon (0-14) will look to pull
off upsets.
Class 3A-District 6
At Trinity Catholic High School
Schedule: Tuesday: No. 2 Mount Dora vs. No. 3 Umatilla, 5 p.m., No. 1
Trinity Catholic vs. No. 4 The Villages, 7 p.m.; Friday: Championship, 6
p.m.
Outlook: The Celtics (6-0 in district) have won 34 consecutive district
matches and should have no trouble hoisting their fourth consecutive
district championship trophy. If Trinity Catholic is able to do this, it
would be the first country girls program to advance to the postseason on
four straight occasions and win four straight district crowns. Forest’s
2000-02 and 2005-07 teams all made the playoffs on three consecutive
occasions and are currently tied with this current group of Celtics.
