(September 30, 2009) - Senior midfield standout Jessica Mooney scored the game winning goal just three minutes after Rollins notched the equalizer to help the Tars to their second Sunshine State Conference victory in as many games.  The No. 8 Tars earned a 2-1 victory over No. 16 Florida Tech on Wednesday evening at Rick Stottler Field, advancing to an overall mark of 7-1-1, and 2-0 in SSC play, while the Panthers drop to 8-2-0, 2-1 in conference action.

Despite being down 1-0 at the half after an FIT goal from Katie King in the 43rd minute of play, the Tars battled back in the initial minutes of the second half, coming out of the break with plenty of fervor.

Just five minutes into the second period, sophomore midfielder Ashley Waplinger, and junior forward Chelsea Brady teamed up to send a connecting pass to senior midfielder Joy Powell.  With a hard strike and precision placement, Powell sent the ball into the right side of the net to notch the equalizer at the 50:36 minute mark and keep Rollins in the game.

Just three minutes later, Mooney notched her first goal of the season after a solid header that floated over the tops of the Florida Tech defense.  A corner kick set up the opportunity, and after a Panther defender headed the ball away from the goal line, Mooney capitalized on an open ball and headed a perfect shot into the back of the net.

The Rollins defense was unyielding yet again as Leah Hirsch, Meagan Thomas, Charlotte Murrell and Maia Ryan held the Panthers to five shots on goal out of 16 shots overall.

Despite the fact that sophomore keeper Michelle Dillingham saw limited shots on frame she kept her head in the game and made four key saves on the evening.  The climax of her incredible abilities during the contest culminated in a behind the back split-second punch in the final minutes of play to keep the Tars in the lead.

The Panthers set the pace early in the contest, but Rollins fell into stride soon after to stay in line with their nationally ranked opponent.  The Tars led in shots 18-16, and held Florida Tech to just five shots in the second half.  Rollins also led in corner kick opportunities 6-4 as well as shots on goal 9-5.

In spite of an eager Florida Tech team jumping into the game full steam ahead, the Tars played a smart game, and outlasted the Panthers through 90 minutes of hard-fought action.  Even in the waning moments of play, Rollins was steadfast and resolute, holding the frantic Panther squad silent in the second half.

The Rollins women's soccer team will be back in action in their third Sunshine State Conference matchup of the season when they hit their home pitch to take on Eckerd College on Saturday, October 3.  Kickoff against the Tritons is set for 7:00 p.m. at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall Sandspur Field.  Fans will be able to catch all of the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
