Meroni, Wyatt lead the Lady soccer Eagles
over Mater
Two
goals from Melanie Meroni and a series of saves by keeper Kaylyn Wyatt made
the difference in a 3-2 win for Island Christian School's girls soccer team
Monday.
Meroni, a Lady Eagle veteran, scored once from the field and again off a
penalty kick as the Eagles (3-4) edged Mater Lakes Academy.
The game was nothing like a Nov. 19 shutout win over Mater Lakes, said ICS
head coach Sheryl Yost.
"Mater Lakes gave us a challenge" Monday, Yost said. "This was a much
different team than the one we played the first time."
"Coach [Todd] Wyatt and I were a bit concerned with how Mater was moving the
ball, but our girls rose to the challenge," Yost said.
Wyatt made about 10 saves to preserve the one-goal win, Yost said. Diana
DuPre scored a solo goal for the Eagles in a good all-around game. And
midfielder Abbey Lindholm helped control the midfield.
ICS' leading scorer, Jen Subic, missed the game due to a family commitment.
The Lady Eagles play rival Princeton Christian at 4 p.m. Friday at the ICS
campus. All four games remaining in the Eagles' regular season will be
played in Islamorada.
