McKenzie Barney Named to Two National Teams of the Week
After
playing a part in each of the game-winning goals in the Gators’ Southeastern
Conference wins last weekend, University of Florida redshirt freshman
McKenzie Barney was named to two national teams of the week on Monday. She
is the second Gator to appear on the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of
the Week this season, as senior Lauren Hyde was named to the team on Aug.
31. Barney joins freshman Brooke Thigpen and sophomore Tahnai Annis as
Gators appearing on CollegeSoccer360’s Primetime Performers list this
season.
In her first home start, Barney turned in the first and final goals in UF's
4-0 win versus No. 17 LSU on Thursday, Oct. 22. Barney's header goal off a
corner kick at 4:40 of the LSU match was the quickest goal scored by the
Gators this season. She also scored late in the match, tapping in the ball
from eight yards off the cross from Lindsay Thompson. In Florida's 1-0 win
at Arkansas on Sunday, Oct. 25, it was Barney who made the final touch out
to Thompson, where she scored from eight yards to give UF the final 1-0
margin.
Barney has started the last three matches for the Gators. She is tied for
third among the Gators in season goals (5) and fifth with 11 points. All of
her goals have come in league play and she is among a four-way tie for third
in the league for goals in SEC play.
The Gators play host to No. 10 South
Carolina (15-2-1, 7-2-1 SEC) on Friday, Oct. 30 for the regular season
finale for both teams. Match time is set for 6 p.m. (ET) at the James G.
Pressly Stadium. Florida leads the SEC with 23 points, while South Carolina
and LSU share second with 22 points each. There are several possible
scenarios in the SEC race, but the most basic is the winning team Friday is
the outright or co-SEC champion. Teams receive three points for a win and
one point for a tie in the league standings.
FSN-Florida (Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable
channel 70) will air Friday’s match live. The match also can be heard live
with Adam Schick and Matthew Stubbington calling the action on AM 850 WRUF
or via simulcast on Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable channel 946 and
www.GatorZone.com.
