PENSACOLA, Fla. — The University of West Florida women’s soccer team took the lead early and never looked back as they shutout Sunshine State Conference opponent Florida Tech 4-0 Friday evening at the UWF Soccer Complex. The West Florida offense was spread out as four different Argos found the back of the net.

Reigning National Player of the Year Shaneka Gordon (Old Harbour, Jamaica/Community College of Baltimore) netted her first goal of the season as she dribbled past the keeper for the open net giving the Argos a 1-0 lead.

The West Florida offense exploded in the second half for three unanswered goals. Marcela Franco (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Visconde de Porto Seguro) put one past the keeper in the 51st minute on a one touch shot inside the box on a pass from Gordon. Freshman Rachel Cutts (Pensacola, Fla./Ole Miss (Pace HS) netted her first career goal later in half and Shakira Duncan finished off the scoring with a her first Argonaut goal in the final minute of play.

The Argos dominated the shot count 17-4 over the Panthers and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
 
The women’s soccer team will remain at home this weekend as they take on NAIA opponent Thomas University on Sunday afternoon at 3pm CT.
