Lady Argos Cruise Past Christian Brothers in GSC
Semifinals
Box Score
PENSACOLA,
Fla. – The top ranked University of West Florida women’s soccer
team dominated Christian Brothers Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the
Gulf South Conference Tournament, handing them a 6-0 loss. It was
Shakira Duncan
who once again led the attack for the Argos, posting four goals and
assisting on one other in win. On Sunday the Lady Argos will have a chance
to defend last season’s GSC title against No. 25 North Alabama at 11am CT at
Brosnaham Park.
The offense for West Florida got off to a quick start when Duncan
assisted Monica
Malavassi (San Jose, Costa Rica/Methodist HS) for the Argos first goal
coming just over a minute into the match.
The next four goals by the Argos came from the foot of Duncan, who ended
the match with nine total points. The Bucs, down 3-0 after just 11 minutes
of play, could not stop the West Florida attack. A dominant first half would
send the Argos into the locker room with a 5-0 cushion, without even
allowing a single shot by the Bucs.
After the break the Argos came out with the same intensity and attacking
mind-set they had in the first half.
Jessica Majewski
(Gulf Breeze, Fla/Gulf Breeze HS) found the back of the net for the first
time this season in the 59th minute. She received a through ball down the
center of the field and raced to goal on a breakaway with just the keeper to
beat. One move and chip to the far post gave the Argos a 6-0 lead.
The Argos were dominant right from the first kick, out shooting the Bucs
15-2 and holding a 9-0 corner kick advantage.
The Lady Argos will take to the pitch Sunday morning at 11am against No. 25
North Alabama in the GSC Championship Match. The women look to defend last
season’s GSC title and claim their third in the past four seasons.
