Klotz Delivers Game Winner to Down Pirates
stats
TAMPA
- After 84 minutes of scoreless soccer, sophomore Chelsea Klotz sent a right
footed blast from 20 yards out which gave the University of South Florida
women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over visiting Seton Hall with 5:53
remaining.
In dramatic fashion, Klotz was able to juke a pair of Pirate defenders, and
ripped a shot that snuck into the left side of the goal.
The shot seemed to fool SHU goalkeeper, Jennifer Pettigrew, as Klotz looked
to the right side and fired into the left to give the Bulls the lone goal of
the game, and improve their record to 5-4-2 on the season.
The conference win improves the Bulls to 2-1-1 on the season and they have
now won two straight one-goal games against BIG EAST foes.
Klotz was all over the field on Friday night, as the sophomore collected
four shots on the night including three that were on net. Molly Stack and
Noelle Pineiro picked up the assist on Klotz's fourth goal of the season and
the eighth of her career.
Klotz improved her point total to nine for the season which is good for
second on the team behind only Noelle Pineiro. Pineiro now has 15 points in
2009, as she assisted on the lone goal of the game tonight.
Senior USF goalkeeper Mallori Lofton-Malachi was perfect once again in net,
stopping four shots on goal to pick up the 19th shutout of her career and
her third of the season.
Lofton-Malachi now has 60 saves on the season, and has lowered her goals
against average to a miniscule .90 for the season.
The Bulls relyed heavily on their starters in the 1-0 battle as five
players-- Klotz, Taylor Patterson, Angelique Waller, Bahar Sansar, Valorie
O'Brien and Alexandra Eagle-- played 90 minutes on the night.
USF, after a slow start, was able to come on strong in the second half
putting six shots on net compared to the Pirates' two. For the game, the
Bulls outshot Seton Hall 10-4.
With the win, the Bulls remained undefeated at home since Sept. 6, nearly an
entire month without losing at the USF Soccer Stadium.
