The JU women’ soccer team won their fourth straight game on Sunday, 2-0, against East Tennessee State. The Dolphins found production from freshmen Alex Schulte and Lisa Hensley as they outshot the Buccaneers, 20-10.

The Dolphins (5-5, 2-0 A-Sun) scored in both halves against the Buccaneers (2-8, 1-1 A-Sun) and continued to create opportunities all game.

“I’m very pleased with the team’s performance today,” said head coach Brian Copham. “It’s always tough to go on the road and get two conference wins so it’s a great weekend for us. We played well against a competitive ETSU team and it’s always a battle when we face them. Good job by Alexa [Rooney] and all the defensive backs to maintain the shutout and we’re going to get home and get ready for next weekend.”

In the first half, Schulte took a ball from freshman Eva Leeper and fired a 25-yard shot into the back of the net for her first goal of the season in the 27th minute. After the halftime break, in the 68th minute, Hensley took a very tidy one touch pass from junior Liz Fink and beat charging goalie Megan Masch.

The disciplined Dolphins only committed one foul during the game and put 10 shots on goal compared to one for ETSU.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Rooney was only called upon once during the contest to make a save and recorded her first shutout of the season.

Fink added to her A-Sun leading shot tally, sending four more balls towards the goal, putting two on goal.

Leeper continues to lead the team in points (10), followed by sophomores Jessica Hurtado (6) and Jelena Vrcelj (5).

The Dolphins are back on the field on Friday when they take on Mercer at 6 p.m. JU will play its second game of the weekend on Sunday at noon against Kennesaw State. Both games are double-headers with the men’s team playing shortly after
