Jacksonville stays
in-town to play in the Osprey Classic this weekend The
JU women’s soccer team is looking to put last week’s trip to Tallahassee,
Fla. behind them as they head into the Osprey Classic this weekend. Hosted
by UNF, the tournament will also feature Georgia State and Coastal Carolina
with the Dolphins facing both out-of-town teams.
The first match-up for the Dolphins (0-1) will come on Friday evening
against Costal Carolina (0-0) at 5 p.m. The series between Coastal Carolina
and Jacksonville is tied at one game each with the Dolphins victorious in
the last meeting against the Chanticleers, 2-1. The Chanticleers defeated
the Dolphins, 3-2, in their only other encounter.
“We’re excited to be playing in Jacksonville, this will be almost like a
home weekend for us,” said head coach Brian Copham. “It’s been a good week
of training and we’re looking forward to getting back on the field Friday
night.”
On Sunday, JU will face familiar foe Georgia State (1-0) for the 17th
time since 1995. The last meeting between the two teams saw the Dolphins
fall to the Panthers, 2-1, in 2005. The two teams also met four times in
conference tournament play during their shared time in the TAAC and A-Sun.
The Osprey Classic will take place on Friday and Sunday in Hodges Stadium
at UNF.
