Indian Rocks can't get offense going
INDIAN ROCKS — One hint a team is a defending state champion is when the
players can't remember how many goals they've scored.
Tampa Prep's Paige Goodwin, Colby Maffei, Taylor Richardson and Amber
Miller entered Tuesday's region semifinal with 46 goals combined. After a
6-0 victory over Indian Rocks Christian, they passed the 50-goal barrier.
"We started slow in the first half but got better in the second half,"
coach Pam Smith said. "(The Golden Eagles) hustled and were pesky."
The Terrapins (17-3-2) were held scoreless for the first 20 minutes, but
led 2-0 at halftime and added four more goals in the second half.
"We hung in there the first 20 minutes," Eagles coach Joe Raissi said.
"Then we just kind of gave up. Obviously Tampa Prep is a great team. We just
dropped our midfield and that dropped us as a team."
Maffei had two goals and has 24 this season. Goodwin had two goals and
has seven this season. Richardson (11 goals) and Miller (10 goals) each had
one goal. Jordan Hatton picked up her 11th shutout of the season and Smith
notched her 113th career win.
Indian Rocks midfielder Madison Hobbs had the first shot on goal, but the
Eagles (14-7) managed only one more shot on goal the rest of the night — a
direct kick by Victoria Raissi.
