Hyde & Thompson on ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Soccer Team

Two University of Florida soccer players earned spots on 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III teams. Senior Lauren Hyde and sophomore Lindsay Thompson both appear on the district third team.

Hyde owns a 3.60 grade point average in sports management. She leads UF this season with her average of 89.7 minutes per match. The defender scored two goals in 2009 – versus USF and versus Auburn and was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week on Aug. 31. Hyde is sixth among the Gators with seven points (2 goals, 3 assists). She owns the UF career record for complete matches played by field player with 73. In August, she was named one of the 30 candidates for Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. Hyde was a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-America third team selection as a junior and has been part of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll as a sophomore and junior.

Thompson is pursuing a degree in health science and owns a 3.45 GPA. She leads UF and shares third in Southeastern Conference with nine goals. Thompson also leads the Gators with her career-high 20 points (9 goals, 2 assists). She was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week after providing both goals in Florida’s 2-1 OT win versus Kentucky. She was named to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll last season.

Next up, No. 10 Florida plays host to No. 13 South Carolina for the regular-season finale on Friday, Oct. 30. Match time is set for 6 p.m. (ET) at the James G. Pressly Stadium. Florida leads the SEC by a point over South Carolina and LSU. A win by any of the top three teams Friday will give that team at least a share of the 2009 SEC title.

Friday’s match will be televised live on FSN-Florida (Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable channel 70) with the Voice of the Gators Mick Hubert and Matthew Stubbington calling the action. The match can also be heard live on WRUF AM 850 or on the simulcast on Gator Radio - Cox Channel 946 in Gainesville and GatorZone.com with Adam Schick covering the action.
