The Bishop McLaughlin Hurricanes and the St. Francis Wolves squared off in
their second contest of the year today in Gainsville. First half play was
a aggressive and spirited defensive showcase. The Hurricanes defense
restricted the Wolves to only a few ventures across midfield. Conversely
the Wolves strength proved to be in their keeper Wiley who made a number
of sparkling saves. The first half scoring was limited to one goal which
occurred when Valdispino played a ball into the box that was pounced on by
Maramara who sizzled a shot high and to the right of Wiley. The half ended
1-0, Hurricanes.
The battle intensified in the second half with a number of hard challenges
and several fouls. The intensity of the game resulted in the Hurricanes'
J. Bexley and Muscolina each receiving a booking by the referee. A foul by
the Wolves just outside their eighteen yard line garnered the Hurricanes a
direct free kick. Valdispino launched a ball that beat Wiley high and to
the left. Addessi scored after a corner kick by the Hurricanes' Valdispino
pinballed off of several players in the box and bounced out to the top of
the 18 yard semi-circle. Addesssi cranked it into the upper right corner
of the net. The final score of the game came when Valdispino played an
aerial lob pass that confused Wiley. Wiley came aggressively for the ball
but got caught in no man's land and C. Bexley bodied it smartly to the
side for an easy put in. The final socre was 4-0, Hurricances.
