Lowery To Coach Pasco Girls Soccer

DADE CITY - With ideas about making Pasco's girls soccer team as successful as the boys, the Pirates tabbed longtime boys assistant Warren Lowery to lead the girls team. He replaces Wardell Powell, who resigned in January.

Lowery, who assisted boys coach Barry Grayling for five years, wants to use some of the same coaching philosophies from the team he helped to eight state playoff wins and a .645 winning percentage. more

Boys and Girls State Soccer Finals Head To Tampa
 
From the Florida High School Athletic Association:

GAINESVILLE ­ The 2009 and 2010 FHSAA Girls and Boys Soccer Finals will be held at the University of Tampa’s Pepin-Rood Stadium, the FHSAA office announced today. Wharton High School will serve as host for the event. more

Soccer championships might be back

The Florida High School Athletic Association boys and girls soccer championships could be returning to Tampa.

UT's Pepin Stadium is one of three finalists to host the event, FHSAA associate athletic director Denarvise Thornton told the Times on Wednesday.

An announcement is expected next week. more

2 Tampa Prep soccer standouts commit

Paige Goodwin and Courtney Zwetsch, two members of the 2008 Tampa Prep state champion girls soccer team, have made oral commitments to Division I programs, Terrapins coach Pam Smith told the Times on Monday. Goodwin is headed to UCF; Zwetsch will play for Florida Atlantic. more

Alonso rising senior Tifani Mullen has verbally committed to Florida State, Alonso girls soccer coach Scott Cunningham confirmed.

Mullen scored 14 goals with 13 assists last season for the Ravens, which advanced to the Class 6A-District 7 semifinals. more

Chelsea Klotz 2A Player of the Year

Tampa Prep senior forward Chelsea Klotz was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 2A Girls Soccer Player of the Year. Klotz finished the season with 64 goals and 15 assists, leading her team to a 26-1-1 record and the Class 2A state title. Chelsea was also the 2A State Championship MVP scoring 4 goals in the 2 games of the final four. Chelsea with play college soccer for USF. "In my opinion, Chelsea is the best striker coming out of Florida this year. She has an uncanny ability to score goals and we look for her to continue doing that at the next level."  Denise Schilte-Brown head coach of USF said of her new recruit.

Pam Smith, Chelsea's head coach at Tampa Prep was named the 2A coach of the year by the Florida Dairy Farmers. All players and coaches are finalists for the overall player and coach of the year award.
 




 

Caroline Trilgia is the 3A Player of the Year

Caroline Trilgia from Bolles was voted the 2008 Florida Dairy Farmers Class 3A Girls Soccer Player of the Year. Caroline was also the Class 3A Championship MVP.

Matt Tracy, Caroline’s coach at Bolles was name the 3A coach of the Year. Both are finalist for the overall player and coach of the year which is due out later this month.

 

Lisa Heise is the 4A Player of the Year

Nease Senior Lisa Heise was voted the 2008 Florida Dairy Farmers Class 4A Girls Soccer Player of the Year. Lisa led Nease to the Class 4A state championship in February and was named 4A Championship MVP for her four goals and one assist in the final four. Heise, who scored 24 goals and had 15 assists this year will play college ball at James Madison.

Dave Silverberg who coached Lisa at Nease was named 4A coach of the year. The final voting for the overall winners are due May 9. The winners will be announced later this month

Kayla Grimsley 5A Player of the Year

George Jenkins senior Kayla Grimsley was voted the 2008 Florida Dairy Farmers Class 5A Girls Soccer Player of the Year.  Kayla led the Eagles to the Class 5A state championship in February and was also named the 5A State Championship MVP.  She scored 44 goals and recorded 33 assists and has signed with South Carolina.
 

Joe Lenard Kayla’s coach at Jenkins was voted the 5A coach of the year. Both are finalists for the overall award for their respective categories.



Wellington’s Lindsey Wilkinson 6A Player of the Year

Wellington senior Lindsey Wilkinson was voted the 2008 Florida Dairy Farmers Class 6A Girls Soccer Player of the Year. Wilkinson led Wellington to the Class 5A state championship in February and was named the 6A State Championship co/MVP. With 31 goals and 16 assists, Wilkinson was the Wolverines' driving force.  

Lindsey’s Coach at Wellington, Michael Kozlowski, was named 6A coach of the year. The final voting for the overall winners are due May 9. The winners will be announced later this month.
