Fort Myers, Fla. - The Stetson women's soccer team finished the Embassy Suites Kickoff Classic in style with an impressive 1-0 win over Tennessee-Martin. Senior Emily Yero (Orlando, Fla.) scored her second goal of the year and sophomore Lindsay Jowers (Port Orange, Fla.) picked up a point with an assist in her first collegiate game.

In a hard fought defensive battle both teams went scoreless in the first half. UTM (1-3-0) held a 5-3 advantage in shots heading into the break, while Stetson (3-3-0) had two corner kick opportunities to one for the Skyhawks.

As it turned out it was a corner kick that made the difference in the game. Just over five minutes into the second half Jowers lined Stetson's third corner kick of the afternoon. She ripped the ball deep into the box to Tessa Gavilsky (Granite City, Ill.). Gavilsky headed the ball to Yero who in turn delivered a header past UTM goalkeeper Aubrey Buehler (Waukesha, Wis.).

"Kudos to Lindsay for scoring a point in her first regular-season game", said Stetson Head Coach Julie Orlowski. "Christina Cromwell and Kassandra Hartwick also played very well in their first collegiate starts."

The Hatters were a bit short handed today as five starters were on the sidelines due to injury or illness.

"For the bench to come in and play a spectacular game and play hard from top to bottom was great to see", said Orlowski. "It was a total team effort. A great way to redeem ourselves after a lack of effort on Friday."

Stetson goalkeeper Andrea Garavaglia (Webster Groves, Mo.) made three saves in the game and registered her third shutout of the season and lowered her goals against average to 1.33.

"We are looking forward to going to Alabama next weekend and take the next step as a team", added Orlowski.

Next up for the Hatters is the Port City Classic hosted by South Alabama in Mobile. Stetson will play Jackson State on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and South Alabama Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
