 Gordon Sisters Selected by Atlanta Beat in WPS
Draft
 PHILADELPHIA,
Pa. – University of West Florida women’s soccer players
Shameka Gordon and
Shaneka Gordon
were selected by the Atlanta Beat in the 2010 Women’s Professional Soccer
Draft on Friday. Shameka was the first to be taken in the Third Round as the
23rd overall pick while Shaneka was taken in the Seventh Round, 57th
overall. They were the only two selections in the draft to come from a NCAA
Division II institution.
During their time with UWF both sisters were highly decorated with
numerous individual honors. Shaneka, the 2008 Ron Lenz National Player of
the Year 2009 Daktronics First Team All-American ends her career with 48
goals, 32 assists and 128 points in just 47 career matches played. She ranks
3rd in career goals, 3rd in career assists, and second in career points. A
two-time GSC First Team selection and Daktronics All-South Region First Team
selection also ranks second in points in a season with 71 and first in
assists with 21. In 2008 she collected the GSC Player of the Year and and
Daktronics South Region Player of the Year honors as well.
Shameka has had an outstanding two year career with the Argonauts as one
of the top defenders at the sweeper position. She has been recognized
nationally, being named a two-time Daktronics First Team All-South Region
selection and two-time Daktronics First Team All-American. She has twice
been named an All-GSC selection, a first team selection in 2008 and second
team selection in 2009. She finishes her career with four goals, all coming
in 2009, six assists for 14 points.
