Gavilsky, Berg, and Cromwell Earn All-Conference Honors

A-Sun All Conference Teams

DeLand, Fla. - For the second consecutive season Tessa Gavilsky has earned the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year award. She is the first Hatter ever to have earned the honor, and now she has done it twice. Joining the First Team All-Conference performer is Heather Berg who was named Second Team All-Conference and Christina Cromwell who was named to the A-Sun All-Freshman Team.

The A-Sun All Conference teams are voted on by the conference head coaches and sports information directors.

With post-season games yet to play Gavilsky, a midfielder out of Granite City, Illinois is leading the A-Sun in shots (74), shots per game (4.11), points (27), points per game (1.50), goals (10), goals per game (0.56), game-winning goals (5), and is second in the league in assists (7). Nationally her 1.50 points per game ranks her 39th among NCAA Division I players.

On October 23 in Stetson's 2-1 win over USC Upstate Gavilsky scored her 10th goal of the season, and the 26th of her career. The goals plus her 19 career assists equals 71 career points and places her at the top of Stetson's all-time scoring list with an entire season yet to play.

Although Heather Berg has been one of the top forwards in the league all season, it was her performance in the regular season finale that sealed her spot on the all-conference second team. In her final regular season game at the Stetson Soccer Complex the senior from Fort Myers, Florida exploded for a team record four goals and added two assists for another team record of 10 points in a single game. For her efforts she was named the A-Sun Offensive Player of the Week.

Berg finished the regular season third in the A-Sun in scoring with 22 points, third in goals scored with nine, and third in goals per game at 0.50. She was fourth in points per game at 1.22.

Christina Cromwell, a freshman out of Cary, North Carolina has proven to be a force on the back line in her inaugural season. After playing in all 18 games for the Hatters she was recognized by the league as one of its top newcomers and voted on to the A-Sun All-Freshman Team. It was the second consecutive season a Stetson freshman defender has earned that honor. Her teammate and back line partner Alexis Hermosa made the team in 2008.

This week the #3 seed Stetson is gearing up to host #6 Campbell in the opening round of the 2009 A-Sun Tournament Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Stetson Soccer Complex.
