Gator Soccer Player Lauren Hyde on 2008 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List

Junior All-American Lauren Hyde of the University of Florida is among the 47 players included in the Women's 2008 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) today.

Hyde earned a spot on the 2007 NSCAA All-America third team as a sophomore. She made her second consecutive appearance on the All-Southeastern first-team in 2007. Hyde led the Gators in minutes played from her center back position as both a freshman and sophomore, averaging more than 91 minutes per match in 2006 and 2007. Her five assists tied for second among the 2007 Gators. Hyde was also part of the 2007 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.

During the course of the 2008 regular season, Florida will face seven other teams with players on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List - Colorado (1 player), Florida State (2), Georgia (1), Illinois (1), LSU (1), Portland (2) and Tennessee (2).

Considered the highest individual honor in intercollegiate soccer, the recipients of the MAC's Hermann Trophy are selected by Division I head coaches who are current NSCAA members. In November, the list will be narrowed to 15 semifinalists. Three finalists will be named in early December. They will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club on for a news conference on January 9, 2009, where the winner will be announced.

Florida opens the 2008-09 competitive season for the Gator athletic program when it travels to Boulder, Colo., to meet Colorado on Aug. 22. The Gators return to the Sunshine State to face Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton on Aug. 24. The opening weekend of home action for the Gator soccer team is Aug. 29-31. Florida faces the same team it played in the 2007 season home finale, UCF, at 8 p.m. on Aug. 29 for the 2008 home opener at the James G. Pressly Stadium. UF and UCF played to a scoreless tie in 2007 NCAA Second Round action, with Florida advancing to the NCAA Round of 16 after taking a 4-3 advantage in penalty kicks. Florida also meets Nebraska on Aug. 31 at 1 p.m.
