Gator Erin Baxter
McCorkle Inducted Into UF Athletics Hall of Fame
Erin Baxter McCorkle,
co-captain of the 1998 NCAA Championship team, is the second soccer player
inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame. She was
inducted into the UF Athletics Hall of Fame Friday evening at the induction
ceremony held at the Holloway Touchdown Terrace. Athletes become eligible
for the UF Athletics Hall of Fame 10 years after they have completed their
collegiate career.
She was a part of the
starting lineup for Florida's first match on Sept. 2, 2005 and was a regular
starter throughout her outstanding career. Baxter McCorkle was a key part of
Florida's rise from its beginnings in 1995 to the NCAA Championship in 1998.
Baxter McCorkle scored
26 goals and contributed 19 assists for 71 points from her center midfield
position. She is a three-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America
(NSCAA) All-America and All-Southeastern Conference selection. As a junior,
she was named the 1997 SEC Player of the Year. Baxter McCorkle is the first
in league history to earn a spot on the All-SEC Tournament team all four
seasons and she was named the SEC Tournament MVP as a senior.

Baxter McCorkle was
also an outstanding student, becoming the first UF female student-athlete to
be named the GTE Academic All-American of the Year as a senior. She was
voted to the GTE Academic All-America At-Large team as a sophomore, junior
and senior. In 1998, she received the Tracy Caulkins Award as UF's top
graduating female student athlete. She graduated from UF with highest honors
in May of 1999, receiving a degree in marketing and a minor in economics.
Baxter McCorkle
played three seasons in the WUSA (women's
professional soccer league that ended in 2003) with the Carolina Courage.
She received her master's degree in accounting from the University of North
Carolina in 2005. She returned to her home state of Colorado and is a public
accountant with Ernst & Young.
Baxter McCorkle and
her husband, John, live in Littleton, Colo., with their daughter, Kylie
Gray.
