Friars Defeat USF the First Time in School History

Fla.- The Providence College women's soccer team earned their second BIG
EAST victory on Friday, October 9. The Friars defeated USF in Tampa, Fla.
1-0 and improved to 7-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the BIG EAST Conference,
while the Bulls fall to 5-5-3 overall and 2-2-2 in conference play. With the
win, the Friars move up two spots in the BIG EAST American Division, passing
Syracuse and Pittsburgh. It also marks the first time the Friars have
defeated USF in the program's history.
The lone goal of the game would come off a Providence corner kick when
freshman
Alyssa Gillespie (Stratford, Conn.) crossed the ball into the box and
sophmore (North Wales, Pa.) headed the ball into the back of the net. goal
is Collins' third of the year. She is now second on the team in goals
(three), assists (two) and points (eight).
In goal, junior
Jill
Schott (Winham, N.H.) tallied her second straight shutout of the year.
Schott has now played 180 minutes in net without giving up a goal. She faced
five shots on goal and came up with the saves to help lead the Friars to
their second BIG EAST victory. On the season, Schott now has a 1.09 goal
against average, tallied 30 saves and a 0.706 save percentage.
With the loss USF falls to 5th in the American Division of the Big East.
