Florida State Renews Rivalry Versus
Florida
The Seminoles and Gators will compete Saturday to support the Ovarian Cancer
Alliance.
April 3, 2009
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State women's soccer team looks to improve
to 4-0 this spring as they face intra-state rival Florida this Saturday at
1:30 p.m. at the Viera Regional Park in Melbourne, Fla. The match is one of
five taking place on Saturday as part of the Second Annual Ovarian Cancer
Awareness Matches.
The Seminoles have been impressive through the first three matches this
spring, outscoring opponents 13-3. While Tiffany McCarty leads the team in
goals scored with three, and Amanda DaCosta has a team-leading two assists,
every player is contributing to the team's success during the spring. Eight
players have combined to score 13 goals, six players earned a combined seven
assists and 10 players earned a combined 39 shots. Goalkeepers Kimmy Diaz
and Erin McNulty are splitting time in the box, earning a combined 17 saves,
while allowing only three goals this season.
Saturday's match, hosted by the Space Coast United Soccer Club and Brevard
County Parks and Recreation, is to raise awareness for Ovarian Cancer. Along
with FSU and Florida, five other schools will participant in matches during
the day long event including UCF, USF, FIU, Florida Tech and Rollins
College. Last year's inaugural event featured a single match between UCF and
FSU attended by over 1,500 fans in an effort to bring awareness to Ovarian
Cancer.
As in the past, there is no cost to attend the matches. The Ovarian Cancer
Alliance of the Space Coast will "pass the hat" for those that can make a
contribution to this worthy cause which is to bring awareness to Ovarian
Cancer. All attendees are being asked to wear their school or club team
colors!
