Florida Southern and Montevallo All Tied Up
Box Score
COLUMBUS,
GA – Alex Hoover
scored in the first half and
Morgan Sammons
scored in the second as Florida Southern battled the University of
Montevallo to a 2-2 tie on Tuesday.
Hoover’s goal, her second of the year, came in the 33rd
minute and gave the Moccasins (9-5-1) a 1-0 lead. It came after a run down
the right side involving Sammons and
Ashlie Haas. The
Mocs had been limited to just one shot before that, and it was one of only
seven shots between the two teams in the first half.
It wasn’t the only goal of the first half, however, as
the Falcons (4-6-2) struck for one themselves 34 seconds before halftime.
Paige Scott did the scoring, connecting on a header off a cross from Natalie
Martineau.
Both teams had chances again early in the second half,
but it was Montevallo which broke the tie in the 54th minute. Again it was
Martineau who set up the goal with a cross-field pass to Nicola Stolworthy.
Florida Southern came back to force another deadlock in
the 74th minute when Sammons took a pass from
Hanna Jansson and
finished off a 1-on-1 with goalkeeper Margret Ingthorsdottir. The freshman
bounced it off the bottom of the crossbar for her fifth goal of the season.
The Mocs did not have another shot until the first
overtime period when Ingthorsdottir saved one by
Princess Haley.
The Falcons had two more shots before the end of regulation, but none in
overtime.
Each team finished with 12 shots apiece, with
Ingthorsdottir making seven saves for Montevallo, and
Martina Tangen Billing
making five for Florida Southern.
The Moccasins return to Sunshine State Conference play on
Saturday when they travel to Saint Leo for a 7:00 p.m. match.
