FSU Opens Season Ranked No. 4 By NSCAA

- What do you get when you combine eight returning starters and 13 letterwinners from last year's squad that played for a national championship and a recruiting class that ranks
among the nation's best? How about the highest preseason ranking in school history. The Florida State soccer team will open the 2008 campaign ranked No. 4 by the NSCAA.
This marks the third straight season and the fourth time in the last five years that the NSCAA has ranked the Seminoles in the top 10 in their preseason poll. In
2006 and 2007, FSU opened the season ranked sixth nationally, while beginning at No. 7 in 2004. more 8/13/2008

the 2008 season less than two weeks away, Conference USA released its women's soccer preseason rankings and awards Tuesday. The league's coaches voted UCF second behind Memphis, while senior
midfielder Hanna Wilde
(Westlake, Ohio) and junior defender Nikki Moore
(Virginia Beach, Va.) grabbed spots on the Preseason All-C-USA Team.
"I think being picked to finish in the top three in the preseason is fair," said 10th year head coach
Amanda Cromwell .
"We lost some key defensive players and the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year in Jennifer Manis ,

Brauer's Soccer Career Ends Early
TAMPA, Fla.
– It has been a rollercoaster ride of a summer for University of South Florida
women’s
soccer standout Lindsay Brauer. Upon the senior’s return from the U-23 U.S. National Training Camp, a week in which she dazzled national coaches, she learned of some abnormalities in the
results of an EKG during her yearly required USF athletics physical.
An EKG test, short for electrocardiogram, is a facet of the USF student-athlete athletic physical procedure.
Brauer’s test came back abnormal, which is not that uncommon in athletes. The abnormalities led to a stress echocardiogram
test. Results again showed problems. A third test, a Cardiac MRI, along with the previous test, showed that she had a thickened left
ventricle, a heart condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. more

National Team won Group G at the 2008 Olympics in dramatic fashion, defeating New Zealand, 4-0, as four different players scored, including a goal just 40 seconds into the match from
midfielder Heather O'Reilly.

Heather Mitts made her third consecutive start of the 2008 Olympic

The expansion from the three soccer fields that are there now is expected to make a $50 million impact annually on the local economy, said Marc Zimmerman, the county's
sports marketing sales and events manager.
The 250-acre park on Berkley Road is expected to cost $14.2 million and will include:
Eight soccer fields, including an international-size stadium with at least 1,500 seats. The cost is expected to be $5 million.

days into the 2008 preseason camp, the UCF women's soccer team is making enormous progress towards being ready for match No. 1 on Aug. 22. The Knights will have three more days of training
before a scrimmage at USF Aug. 16, then another four days of work before battling Florida State in Tallahassee to open the regular season.
While UCF returns its top nine scorers from 2007 when it went 15-4-4, three goalkeepers, senior Jesse Gardner, junior
Lynzee Lee and redshirt freshman

Rollins Returns to Pitch for 2008 Season
WINTER PARK, Fla. (August 11, 2008) -
With the loss of only one senior from their 2007 squad, the Rollins women’s soccer team returns to the pitch on Monday to kick off preseason training.
Head coach Tony Amato enters his sixth year at the helm after leading the women’s soccer team to
10 or more wins for the fourth time in five years. The Tars finished the year with an overall record of 10-8-1, and a conference mark of 4-3-1, placing the team fourth in the Sunshine State
Conference for the second straight season. more
FIU Preseason Kicks Off
The 2008 FIU women’s soccer season got underway Friday with the first day of pre-season
practice.
Nearing the end of day one, it is evident that there’s a youth movement within this team, and the veterans are excited about
it. “It’s a young team, but from what I’ve seen so far from them, they have skills individually,” said senior defender Kia Rigsby. “They are very skillful and very talented. As long
as we can get everyone to come together and work together as a team, I think we’ll do great.”

Lloyd's strike gives U.S. win over Japan
The U.S. looked far from gold-medal form, but did enough against a dangerous Japanese side
to
pick up a much-needed three points in Group G after dropping its opener against Norway.
The Americans created a host of scoring opportunities, but were only able to capitalize in the 27th minute, when Lloyd volleyed a cross from defender Stephanie Cox just
under the crossbar.
The United States, which plays New Zealand in its final group match on Tuesday in Shenyang, has three points in the group. Japan has one
point, and faces Norway next in Shanghai. more
FSU's Becky Edwards Earns Spot On U.S. U-20 National Team

- Florida State's Becky Edwards
received great news on Friday, August 8 as she earned
a spot on the final roster of the United States U-20 National Team as announced by head coach Tony DiCicco. Edwards is one of 18 players that will represent the U.S. at the FIFA Youth World
Cup which will be held November 20 - December 8 in Chile.
"I am very excited," explained Edwards. "I'm looking forward to
representing my country and will hopefully come back with a gold medal."

West
Florida womens soccer team was tabbed the pre-season favorite in the Gulf South Conference coaches poll, it was announced on Thursday by GSC Commissioner Nathan N. Salant. The Argonauts
collected five of nine possible first place votes among the leagues head coaches, with the other four going to defending champion Montevallo.

Norway Scores Twice Early, U.S. Women Lose in 2008 Olympic Opener
QINHUANGDAO,
China (Aug. 6, 2008) – The U.S. Women’s National Team fell to Norway, 2-0, in the first match for both teams at the 2008 Olympics as the Europeans stunned the U.S. with two goals in the
first five minutes. The Americans pushed to pull a goal back in the second half, but an organized Norwegian side held on for the victory on a hot and steamy night at the Qinhuangdao Sports
Center Stadium.
The loss was just the second-ever for the U.S. women in the Olympics, with the only other loss also coming to Norway in the 2000 Olympic Final in Sydney, Australia.

Plant High rising senior Lexi Rakestraw and Bloomingdale rising junior Jordan Johnson have both made decisions on their futures according to RSL Florida coach Jim Cote.
Rakestraw will attend the University of Colorado in 2009, while Johnson will go to Florida State in 2010.
Rakestraw had eight goals and four assists for Plant last season as the Panthers went to the Class 5A Region quarterfinals. Johnson was part of the Bloomingdale team
that reached the Class 5A Region semifinals.
Both players play for the RSL Florida under-17 team that qualified for the United Soccer League’s Super-Y North American Championships on Wednesday with a 10-1 win
against Schultz Academy. The Finals begin on November 21 at locations around the bay area as part of the USL’s SoccerFest.

Bulls Ready for the Next Step
TAMPA- Entering her second season with the University of South Florida, head coach Denise
Schilte-Brown and her women’s soccer teams are ready to take the next step forward
as a program.
The Bulls return eight players, including two seniors, from a squad that gained the school’s first berth in to the BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championships since joining the league three
seasons ago. Coach Schilte-Brown will look to those eight returnees to lead a talent-filled group of 18 newcomers.
Coach Schilte-Brown and her staff used the first year as a learning experience and are excited for the upcoming season as they continue to build their program.

Wednesday, August 6 as the Seminoles look to build on the success of last year
which included a berth in the national title game and the finest offensive output in school history. Twenty-three student-athletes, including eight newcomers, will take to
the field on Wednesday under the direction of fourth year head coach Mark Krikorian.
Florida State returns eight of 11 starters and 13 of 20 letterwinners for the upcoming season. Included among the eight returning starters are all four of FSU's starting
backline. The quartet of Katrin Schmidt,
Sarah Wagenfuhr,
Becky Edwards and
Erika Sutton guided the Seminoles to the second most shutouts (12) and the third lowest goals against average (0.94) in school history.

Bulls Holds First Practice
TAMPA - Many new faces were present at the USF Practice Facility as the University of
South Florida women’s soccer team opened up practice this morning in preparation for the
upcoming season.
Head coach Denise Schilte-Brown, eight returners and temperatures reaching close to 90 degrees welcomed 18 newcomers as they work towards their exhibition opener on Aug. 22 against the
University of North Florida at the University of Tampa.
Entering her second campaign as the Bulls coach, coach Schilte-Brown was really encouraged by the organization of practice and the overall effort of her team.

The 2008 Knights begin training this week to prepare for the season opener at Florida State.
"I trained up until Sunday before taking off two days to let my body acclimate, and then we moved in Tuesday which took all day. I know a lot of the girls will be ready for the
preseason since we made sure we were on top of our workouts."
All home matches at the UCF Soccer Complex are free to the public this season. The Knights will have a total of nine games on the UCF campus, including a clash against Big Ten foe

Hurricanes Selected to Finish Seventh in ACC Preseason PollAug. 5, 2008
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The University of Miami soccer team was voted to finish seventh in the
Atlantic
Coast Conference by the league's 11 head coaches. For the third consecutive season, the Tar Heels were selected to be the top team in the ACC.
Florida State and Virginia were chosen to be second and third respectively, the third consecutive year that each program as been selected in the top three in the
conference.
In 2007, the Hurricanes finished sixth in the ACC with a 4-4-2 record, and were undefeated in conference play on their home field. One of those home wins came in the form
of a 1-0 victory over perennial powerhouse, North Carolina, the first win against UNC in program history. more
U.S. Under-20 Women Fall to Top Clubs in England
CHICAGO (August 4, 2008) - After a training camp
in New Jersey from July 23-28, in which the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team downed the W-League’s New Jersey Sky Blue by a 5-1 score, the team headed to England, where it
dropped matches to the Everton Ladies (1-0) and the Arsenal Ladies (3-1).
Against the Sky Blue on July 26, the USA got an early goal from Alex Morgan, who also added one with 15 minutes left in the game, plus individual scores from Gina DiMartino,
Amanda DaCosta and Kiersten Dallstream for the final margin. more

Nordby Begins Olympics Aug. 6
TAMPA, Fla.
– Former University of South Florida standout Siri Nordby, and the Norway National
Women's
Soccer Team, will face the United States in Round 1 of the Olympics on Wednesday, Aug. 6 in Beijing, China.
(Due to the length of the tournament, the women's soccer competition must begin before the
Opening Ceremonies.)
The crucial Group G match at the Qinhuangdao Olympic Sports Center Stadium kicks off at 7:45
p.m. local time, which is 7:45 a.m. ET, and will be broadcast live on MSNBC and Universal HD. The game can also be seen on the NBC Olympic Soccer Channel.

US Youth Soccer National Championships Highlight Show Premiers this Saturday

Florida State Soccer Slated To Finish Second In The ACC
The Seminoles garner 102 points including two first-place
votes in 2008.

Greensboro, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference and Commissioner John D.
Swofford announced on Monday, August 4 the preseason poll for the 2008 women's
soccer season, as determined by a vote of the league's 11 head coaches. For the
third consecutive year, Florida State was the coaches' pick to finish second as
the Seminoles garnered two first-place votes for 102 points.
"It's great to see that our program has continued to earn the
respect of our peers which is nice and flattering," stated head coach
Mark Krikorian.
North Carolina was picked to win the league for the 17th
straight year as the defending ACC champions received seven first-place votes
and 117 total points. It marked the fewest number of first-place votes garnered
by the Tar Heels since 2003 when the league sponsored eight teams in women's

Tampa, Fla.-A few days after
being named to the 2008 W-Lenague Eastern All-Conference Team,
the
United Soccer Leagues announced University of South Florida junior goalkeeper
Mallori Lofton-Malachi as the 2008 Goalkeeper of the Year as voted on by the
league's coaches and general managers.
Lofton-Malachi helped guide the Tampa Bay Hellenic to a
third-place finish in the Atlantic Conference. In doing so, she compiled a 6-1-2
record with three shutouts.
Her finest effort came in a shut out of the vaunted attack of
the Atlanta Silverbacks, a game in which she made four saves, including a
penalty kick to preserve the tie, against the league's top team.

Tampa Bay netminder Mallori
Lofton-Malachi left quite an impression on the opposition this season, earning
the Goalkeeper of the Year honor despite finishing six in the league in goals
against average. She helped guide the expansion side to a third-place finish in
the Atlantic with a personal record of 6-1-2 on the season and three shutouts.
In her lone game against the top two in the division, Lofton-Mallachi posted a
shutout against the vaunted Atlanta Silverbacks attack, including a penalty kick
save. She allowed just five goals in her nine appearances.

Expansion Blues rally from first deficit of the season to
win title
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- It’s not always the case that a game
can live up to the hype, but
the
Pali Blues 2-1 victory over FC Indiana in the W-League Championship game
will be remembered for ages.
The Pali Blues came out loose and relax and it showed early in the contest.
Pali was in control of the game early, dominating possession and getting
everyone involved. On the other hand, FC Indiana looked nervous and the big
game jitters definitely contributed to early FC Indiana miscues.

Atlantic University's women's soccer program officially begins its 2008
campaign on Tuesday, August 5, when the team's student-athletes report to
FAU's Boca Raton campus for preseason camp. The Owls' match on Friday,
August 22 at Florida Gulf Coast University will initiate the University's

Lowery To Coach Pasco Girls Soccer
DADE CITY - With ideas about making Pasco's girls soccer
team as successful as the boys, the Pirates tabbed longtime boys assistant
Warren Lowery to lead the girls team. He replaces Wardell Powell, who
resigned in January.
Lowery, who assisted boys coach Barry Grayling for five
years, wants to use some of the same coaching philosophies from the team he
helped to eight state playoff wins and a .645 winning percentage.

BREVARD COUNTY COCOA EXPOS 0, MYSC LADY BLUES 1
COCOA, FL (07/28/08) -
The MYSC Lady Blues made
the most of their chance, while the Brevard County Cocoa Expos couldn't
cash in on theirs. Thus, their Women's Premier Soccer League season ended
in the first round of the playoffs Monday night in a 1-0 defeat.
The Lady Blues (8-1), the Midwest Conference champions, advance to the
league's championship final four this weekend in Sacramento, Calif., while
the Expos, the Sunshine Conference champs, finished 11-1-1.

the Sunshine Conference, Kryger's Cocoa Expos also led the way with four
selections which included leading scorer Stacey Jo Fletcher, midfield duo
Jenn Montgomery & Courtney Baines and defender Katie Tullis. Miami's
Betty Ann Casey (14 goals, six
assists) was named the Conference Player of the Year - as she was one
point shy of Utah's Megan Dickerson for second in league scoring - and
Palm Beach United's Erin Switalski
was selected Goalkeeper of the Year - who played every minute of every
game this season, notching five shutouts.

Lofton-Malachi was one of the top 33 players in the league
as voted on by team coaches and general managers. Playing in
goal in 12 games, Lofton-Malachi tallied 45 saves and
allowed just five goals in 766 minutes this summer.

National Team won the 2008 CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s
Championship with a 4-1 victory against Costa Rica on
Sunday night at Marvin Lee Stadium. Tani Costa scored
twice for the U.S., with Kristen Mewis and Courtney
Verloo each scoring once.
