Flagler women tie with Montevallo

Box score

The Flagler College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw Saturday evening against the University of Montevallo Falcons. It was the conference opener for both teams.

Flagler's Tiffany Urquhart (Ormond Beach, Fla./ Seabreeze HS) started the scoring in the 61st minute after being awarded a penalty kick. Urquhart sailed the PK over the outstretched arms of Falcons' goalkeeper Alyssa Maxwell.

The Saints took the 1-0 lead in the second half but weren't able to maintain the advantage.

Falcons' midfielder Nicola Stolworthy scored on an assist from Jade Skillen in the 67th minute. Saints' goalkeeper Christie Reuther (Sarasota, Fla./ Riverview HS) had a shot at the save, but the ball slipped away from her hands.

The two teams took the 1-1 score into the first overtime. Midway through the first overtime, Urquhart had a chance to end the game, but her shot in the box sailed wide left.

Neither Flagler nor Montevallo would come close to scoring again.

The tie moves Flagler's record to 3-1-1, while Montevallo sits at 1-2-1.

Flagler returns to the field Sept. 16 at home against Rollins.
