PALM COAST -- For several years now, Spruce Creek and Flagler Palm Coast
have had the area's most intense rivalry in girls soccer. But this year, the
games between DeLand and FPC have become just as fierce.
Friday night's matchup at FPC had an injury count higher than the final
goal count, with the referees letting the teams get away with quite a bit of
contact.
Between the whistles, FPC's Chelsea Barney finished her regular-season
career at home in style, scoring twice to lead FPC to a 2-1 win.
"We definitely like it this way, and I'm glad they let us play," said
Barney, the area's second-leading scorer. "We were really expecting a tough
game because this was DeLand, and it was really physical, which helps us."
