ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.--The Flagler College women's soccer team defeated Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 2-1 in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday night at Saints Field. The Saints improve their record to 3-1-0. The Eagles dropped their third match of the season and now stand at 1-3-0.

Flagler started the scoring in the third minute when freshman Loren Cate (Apopka, Fla./ Apopka HS) scored on Kincaid Schmidt's (Palmetto, Fla./ Palmetto HS) pass in the box. The Saints took the early 1-0 lead but the Eagles would come back.

In the 39th minute, ERAU's Elina Johansson, the Eagles' leading goal-scorer this season, zipped a shot past Saints' goalkeeper Christie Reuther (Sarasota, Fla./ Riverview HS). Krissy Menez assisted Johansson on the score.

Flagler would re-capture the lead, though, just before halftime. In the 43rd minute, a penalty kick was awarded to Flagler and senior forward Tiffany Urquhart (Ormond Beach, Fla./ Seabreeze HS) scored on the free kick.

Urquhart's goal would be the end result though.

Flagler out-shot ERAU, 24-10.

In the second half, the score would remain the same, 2-1, but Flagler needed a few saves to hold on to win. In the 83rd minute, the Eagles had a chance to tie, but a header from ERAU's Kara Haack was saved by Reuther.

Reuther finished the night with three saves.

Flagler opens conference play this Saturday at 5 p.m. at Saints Field against Montevallo.
