ST. AUGUSTINE,
Fla. - The Flagler women's soccer team captured a come-from-behind victory
over Clayton State University Saturday night, 2-1. The Saints notched
their second Peach Belt Conference win and moved their overall record to
5-2-1.
Clayton State (1-6-0, 0-2-0 PBC) got on the scoreboard first in the 32nd
minute when forward Cherie Sayon shot into the left corner past Saints'
goalkeeper
Christie Reuther (Sarasota, Fla./ Riverview HS). Sayon dribbled
all the way from midfield before scoring.
Clayton State took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Flagler tied the game in the 73rd minute when
Kincaid Schmidt (Palmetto, Fla./ Palmetto HS) shot from 45-yards
out and knocked the ball off the goal post and into the net.
Lakers' goalkeeper Dominique Trappio had a chance to save the ball, but
couldn't get a hold of it.
The Saints took the lead for good in the 80th minute when freshman
Loren Cate (Apopka, Fla./ Apopka HS) scored on a pass from
Lindsay Zullo (Hudson, Fla./ Hudson HS).
It was Flagler's 16th shot-on-goal. The Lakers only managed four shots.
The win moves the Saints into second place in the Peach Belt behind
Armstrong Atlantic State. Flagler returns to the field Sept. 30th on the
road at Florida Southern.
