FGCU Announces 2009 Signing Class
Fort Myers, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University
Women's Soccer team and head coach Jim Blankenship announced their signing
class for the 2009 season. The Eagles signed seven freshmen to National
Letters of Intent. The newest additions to the Eagle soccer team include
Jennifer Crittenberger, Ariana Espinoza, Danielle Marie Faller, Chelsea
Garlock, Julia Martin, Jessica Swartzentruber, and Susan Schwartz.
"We are really excited to have this talented group of young ladies enter our
program," said head coach Jim Blankenship. “These additions have added to
are already talented young team. We already have a solid foundation and our
new class adds special pieces to that. Each young lady comes from a great
youth system, and we not only expect them to excel on the field, but also in
the classroom.”
This class features:
• 1 player from the #1 team in the country (Cardinal Gibbons High School)
• 1 player from the U20 Costa Rican National Team.
• 1 school record holder (24 goals in a season).
Here is a look at the 2009 Eagles soccer signing class:
Jennifer Crittenberger, Lighthouse Point, Fla.
Crittenberger helped lead Cardinal Gibbons High School
at a 28-0-2 record this past year and was ranked number one in the country.
In her freshman season, Crittenberger was named offensive player of the year
and the Sun-Sentinel & Miami Herald nominated her for second team honors.
Crittenberger earned first team honors by the Sun-Sentinel & Miami Herald in
both her sophomore and junior seasons. Crittenberger also played club for
Team Boca U18, and looks to see time as a defender as an Eagle.
Ariana Espinoza, San Jose, Costa Rica
As a senior, Espinoza was the leading goal scorer at
the American International School of Costa Rica. An all star selection and
team MVP in 2008, Espinoza also played on the U20 Costa Rican National Team.
The Human Performance major looks to bolster a strong Eagle defense.
Danielle Marie Faller, Elizabethtown, Pa.
Faller is a two time all-star while being an
all-county selection and team MVP as a junior. Faller also spent time with
the Hershey Tidal Force U17 club team, and will take on the center-mid
position as an Eagle.
Chelsea Garlock, Meriden, Conn.
Garlock is a three time All-Conference Selection,
while being named All-State as a senior. Garlock earned the 2008 Player
Award as voted by the Referees Association of New Haven. The four time team
MVP is the recipient of the Citizenship Award, Project Excel Award, and the
RJ Scholar Athlete Award. Garlock also holds the school record for most
goals in a season with 24. The Criminal Forensics major played club soccer
for the AFC Pride, and will see time at the forward position as an
Eagle.
Julia Martin, Bayport, N.Y.
Martin was a 2008 and 2009 All-County selection at
Bayport Blue Print High School. The team captain of her soccer and
basketball teams, Martin was a medalist in 2007 and 2008 at the US Lifeguard
Nationals. The Marine Biology major played club ball with Score Soccer Real
Chaos. Martin will see time at forward and as a midfielder for the Eagles.
Jessica Swartentruber, Sarasota, Fla.
Swartentruber is a 2009 graduate of Sarasota Christian
where she set the mark in career goals with 103. The first team All-Area
selection was the team MVP while leading the area in goals scored with 47. A
Nursing major, Swartentruber was a member of the Manatee Magic club team.
Swartentruber looks to play midfielder for the Eagles squad.
Susan Schwartz, Valrico, Fla.
Schwartz is 2009 graduate of Bloomingdale High School
where she was a member of both the National Honor and Spanish Societies. The
Business Management major played club soccer with the Manatee Magic.
Schwartz will see time as a midfielder for the Eagles.
