TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Sophomore
Erin McNulty received some exciting news this week as she received an
invitation to participate with the Canadian Full National Team during a
two-week long camp in Los Angeles, Calif., beginning Sunday, February 8.
The February camp will be Canada's first under new head coach Carolina
Morace. The camp will feature 26 players, most notably captain Christine
Sinclair and CONCACAF scoring hero Melissa Tancredi. Also receiving an
invitation to camp is Canadian U-20 Player of the Year Jonelle Filigno along
with fellow U-20 teammates Chelsea Stewart,
Erin McNulty and Allysha Chapman. Martina Franko is the elder statesman
in camp while Karina LeBlanc and Amy Walsh are the last two players who made
their debuts in the 1990s under coach Neil Turnbull.
McNulty, who took a redshirt at Florida State during the 2008 fall
season, played an integral role in leading Canada's U-20 team to a second
CONCACAF U-20 Championship back in June of 2008. She also started in goal
for Team Canada in all three games at the FIFA Youth World Cup in Chile in
late November. This marks the third time in McNulty's career that she has
been invited to participate in camp with the Canadian Full National Team.
As a freshman with the Seminoles in 2007, McNulty started all 27 games
between the posts in leading Florida State to its first appearance in the
national championship game in school history. She played over 2,300 minutes
in goal posting a record of 18-6-3 with eight shutouts and a 0.94 goals
against average.
Canada has finished amongst the top-nine teams at each of the last three
FIFA senior women's competitions. In August, it reached the quarterfinals of
the Women's Olympic Football Tournament before losing to number-one ranked
USA in extra time.
