Eagles Open Conference Play with Thriller over Warner
Box Score
DAYTONA
BEACH, Fla. - For the 17th time in 17 games the ERAU women's soccer team
beat Warner University on Friday night at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
Senior
Lindsey Evans chose a perfect time to score her first goal of the season
with the game tied at 3-3. Evans headed a corner kick into the corner of the
net for the game-winner and the first conference win of the season. The
Eagles move to 4-4 on the year, 1-0 in The Sun Conference. Warner falls to
3-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The scoring started early on Friday night when
Elina Johansson was taken down in the penalty box by a Royal defender in
the sixth minute. Denmark native
Cecilie Henriksen beat goalkeeper Julia Valentine on the penalty kick to
notch the first goal of the game.
Warner answered seven minutes later when Danielle Chapuseaux received a pass
from Abigail Frook and scored her sixth goal of the season to even the match
at one apiece.
Just four minutes later Johansson dribbled past two Royal defenders and shot
it past Valentine to give the lead back to the Blue and Gold.
The last goal of the first period was scored by Chapuseaux when she chipped
it over Eagle goalkeeper
Dina Roper to once again tie the game, this time at two goals apiece.
The second half looked to be the complete opposite of the first as neither
team had many opportunities on goal until Warner's Brooke Freeman knocked in
a blocked ball to give Warner their first lead of the contest 3-2 with just
21 minutes left in the game.
The Eagles showed poise as they attempted to mount a comeback in the last
few minutes of the game and their patience was rewarded when Johansson
notched her eight goal of the season in the 76th minute as the game was once
again squared.
Henriksen's corner in the 79th minute led to Evans' go-ahead goal and sealed
the win for Coach
Samantha Baggett Bohon and her squad.
Roper minded all 90 minutes of the Eagle net and made eight saves on the
night. Valentine matched Roper's eight saves as she also played all 90
minutes.
The Eagles held the edge in shots, 26-22, and corners, 6-1.
The Blue and Gold stay in Daytona Beach when they host Webber International
on Sunday at 3 p.m.
