MEMPHIS,
Tenn. – The top ranked University of West Florida women’s soccer
team claims a region high eight All-South Region selections, eight on the
First Team, as it was announced by Daktronics Tuesday afternoon.
Shakira Duncan
becomes the second consecutive Lady Argo to be named South Region Player of
the Year as teammate
Shaneka Gordon took home that title last season.
Representing the Argos on the First Team is goalkeeper
Courtney Jones,
defenders Shameka
Gordon and Kaley
Morris, midfielders
Marcela Franco and

and forwards Shaneka
Gordon and
Shakira Duncan. Rounding out the Argos All-South Region selections on
the Second Team is defender
Anastasia Prescott.
In goal on the First Team is Jones, a three time Daktronics All-South Region
First Team selection. This season she has recorded five shutouts while only
allowing six goals on the season for a 0.37 goals against average. Her
defense in front of her has been outstanding as well. Holding down the back
line for the Argos are defenders
Shameka Gordon and
Kaley Morris.
Gordon, a Second Team All-GSC Selection, earns her second All-South region
nod after being named a First Team All-American last season. In her two year
career at West Florida she has captured three GSC Defender of the Week
awards as a sweeper. Teammate
Kaley Morris is
having an outstanding senior season as well, earning her first career nod to
the South Region First Team. Morris, a GSC First Team selection and the GSC
Tournament Most Outstanding Player has been solid all season. Thus far she
has knocked in three goals while assisting on two others, as a top defender
for the Argos. Earning a Second Team selection is Argonaut defender
Anastasia Prescott.
She takes home her first career Daktronics selection after being named to
the 2008 NSCAA/adidas South Region First Team.
In the midfield for the Argos is
Marcela Franco and
Dernelle Mascall.
Franco collects her third career first team selection while Mascall takes
home her second First Team nod. Franco, a 2008 First Team All-American, is
fourth on the team this season in goals (10) and points (25). Mascall joins
her on the First Team for the first time since 2007 when she was crowned a
First Team All-American.
At the forward position is the dual threat of
Shakira Duncan
and Shaneka Gordon.
Duncan captures South Region Player of the Year honors a year removed from
Shaneka taking home that title in 2008. Duncan leads the Argos in goals (31)
and points (74), both UWF single season records. Gordon is having another
phenomenal season as she has posted a career high 25 goals and 19 assists,
eclipsing last season’s goal total when she was named the Ron Lenz National
Player of the Year.

slated for 4:00pm ET.
