Duncan Named GSC Player of the Week
BIRMINGHAM,
Ala. —
Shakira Duncan, the leading scorer on the No. 2 University of West
Florida women’s soccer team, was tabbed as this week’s Gulf South Conference
Player of the Week as announced Tuesday afternoon. Duncan, earning her first
career GSC laurel, added goals in all three matches last week to bring her
season total to 11.
On the week Duncan fired off nine total shots with four coming on frame
and three goals scored. She marked a goal in each of the three matches this
week including two game winners. On the road down in south Florida she
tallied the first goal in the Argos 2-0 shutout over Barry and then netted
the Argo’s second goal in a 3-1 win over nova Southeastern. Thus far, the
junior transfer from Darton College has netted 11 goals while assisting on
five others for a team high 27 points. She has now scored at least one goal
in each of the Argos’ first nine games.
This weekend the Lady Argos will open up conference play at home against
Ouachita Baptist and Harding. On Friday evening the women will look to
improve on their perfect 10-0-0 record against the Tigers at 5pm CT before
squaring off with Harding at 12:30pm CT on Sunday afternoon.
