Duncan, Morris Tabbed as GSC Players of the Week
BIRMINGHAM,
Ala. — For just the second time this season the top ranked West
Florida women’s soccer team will sweep the weekly Gulf South Conference
Player and Defender of the Week awards.
Shakira Duncan
(Kingston, Jamaica/Darton College) earns her second Player of the Week honor
this season while
Kaley Morris (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze HS) takes home her third
career laurel.
Duncan had an outstanding week scoring six goals and assisting on one
other as they Lady Argos cruised to two victories over GSC opponents by
combined score of 14-2. On Friday afternoon Duncan provided half of the
Argo’s offense in a 4-1 win at Alabama-Huntsville. Then on Sunday the junior
forward tallied four consecutive second half goals in a 20 minute span to
lift the Argos 10-1 over the Statesmen. This season Duncan is averaging 3.57
points per game and 1.5 goals per game which ranks second and third
respectively among all of NCAA Division II.
Morris, a Gulf Breeze, Fla. native, headed a great Argonaut defense that
limited Alabama-Huntsville and Delta State to a combined seven shots. In the
Argos 10-1 victory over Delta State on Sunday, Morris helped limit the
Statesmen to two shots while also scoring a goal, her second of the season.
This Friday night the Argos will square off with GSC rival No. 24 North
Alabama in one of the biggest games of the season. This match could untimely
decided the top seed in next month’s GSC Tournament as both teams stand with
a perfect 5-0 conference record. Kickoff is slated for a 7:30pm kickoff and
will serve as UWF’s Homecoming match.
