Pembroke Pines - A year ago at this time the West Broward soccer field was a swamp on the very edge of the Everglades.

On Thursday afternoon, it was the setting for one of the most important girls' soccer matches of the 2008-09 season, as unbeatens Cardinal Gibbons and West Broward squared off for the top seed in District 15-4A.

The game lived up it to its billing, as the Chiefs won 1-0 to claim the district crown and keep their undefeated record intact.

Sophomore forward Macy Huskey scored off an assist from senior forward Kim Schumacher early in the first half to lift Gibbons (20-0-1, 7-0). more
