Box Score
BLACKSBURG,
Va. - The University of Miami women's soccer team (8-9-1, 3-5-1) fell to the
No. 17 Virginia Tech Hokies (13-5-0,6-3-0), 2-1 on a heart-breaking goal in
the game's final seconds at Thompson Field on Friday night.
With just seven seconds remaining in regulation, there was a scramble in
front of the Hurricane net - when Emily Jukich headed in the unassisted
game-winner.
The second half saw Virginia Tech pick up the offensive pressure as they
outshot the Hurricanes 13-1 and took 10 corners to just one for UM. Tech's
game-tying goal came in the 76th minute as Jennifer Harvey tapped in a long
throw in from Julian Johnson.
The Hurricanes ended the first half on a
Brittney Steinbruch goal. With just 1:25 remaining in the period,
Steinbruch dribbled down and scored on a bending shot around the Hokie
defenders. The goal was the team-leading fourth of the season and the 28th
of her career. The Wyckoff, N.J. native's next goal will tie her with
Britney Butcher for the most in school history.
Steinbruch led the `Canes with two shots, both on goal. Senior
Beverly Goebel and freshman
Jordan Roseboro each recorded a shot as well.
The Hurricanes wrap up their regular season as they stay on the road to
face Virginia on Sunday, Nov.1.
