Four Bulls Train with Canadian U-20 Team
TAMPA - The
Canadian women's U-20 national team, who recently completed its second
training camp of 2009, featured four members of the University of South
Florida women's soccer team.
Sophomore's Rehana Murani and Gina Pacheco, along with freshman Bahar Sansar
and Taylor Patterson traveled to El Paso, Texas to train in hopes of earning
a spot on the Canadian National World Cup team.
The team, coached by Carolina Morace, opened camp at the University of Texas
El Paso before crossing the border to play two international friendly
matches with the Mexican women's U-20 team in Juarez. In the first of two
friendlies, the two teams played a 3-3 draw on October 29, and Patterson
tallied her first international goal to put Canada up 3-2.
Pacheco and Sansar earned their first call-up to the senior squad this past
summer and Pacheco earned her first international cap for Canada a friendly
match against the United States in Rochester, N.Y.
The Ottawa, Ontario native entered the game in the 81st minute, replacing
Kara Lang in hopes of bringing a spark to the Canadian offensive attack.
Pacheco played the final 11 minutes but did not record a shot. Sansar
dressed for Canada but did not see any action.
The Canadian women's U-20 team will come together in December for a final
training camp prior to the CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championship, held in
Guatemala from January 18-31.
