Bulls to Hold Charity Run

TAMPA(2/18/2009) – The University of South Florida’s head women’s soccer coach Denise Schilte-Brown, in partnership with the The Nicole Megaloudis Foundation, is holding the second annual Florida Nicole Megaloudis Foundation 5K Run/Walk Saturday, April 5 starting at 10 a.m. on the USF  campus.

“The Nicole Megaloudis Foundation is something that is very special me,” said Bulls e Schilte-Brown. “ Nicole was such an outstanding person and did so much for others that is important for me to be able to keep her spirit alive and I think that holding this charity run is a great way to do so.”

The Nicole Megaloudis Foundation was established in 2004 after Megaloudis, one of Schilte-Brown’s soccer players at Virginia Commonwealth University, passed away in a car accident on her way back to campus. Schilte-Brown and the rest of Megaloudis’ VCU teammates along with Megaloudis’ family decided to honor her memory by creating a foundation in her name.

The event which requires a monetary donation, $15 for students and $25 for non-students, will be held at the USF Soccer Practice Field with registration starting 9 a.m.

“Every year the event has been getting better and better. It is something that is a lot of fun but more importantly it is for an outstanding cause. I really encourage everyone to come out and be part of a great experience,” said Schilte-Brown.

Since the accident, Schilte-Brown has held an annual 5K run/walk to raise money for the foundation, generating no less than $10,000 per year through the event. When Schilte-Brown was hired two years as the USF women’s soccer coach, she brought the Foundation and the event with her. The foundation sponsors approximately five or six need-based scholarships for less than fortunate students to be able to attend and graduate college in the greater D.C. Maryland area and the Bay Area.
