Bulls Lose but Clinch Playoff Spot
With Pittsburgh's Loss, USF Clinches a Big East Playoff Spot

- Looking to clinch a spot in the 2009 BIG EAST Tournament, the University
of South Florida women's soccer team fell victim to a golden goal from
Rutgers' Courtney Lane in the 102nd minute of play Friday afternoon in
Queens, NY.
USF battled but couldn't to capitalize on their four shots on goal. The
Bulls attempted 10 shots in all. Taylor Patterson led the way with four
total shots with two being on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Mallori Lofton-Malachi was strong in goal for the Bulls
making five saves on the day but gave up Lane's golden goal after after
shutting out the Knights for 100 minutes of play.
Lofton-Malachi was joined by five other Bulls who went the distance playing
the entire match. Boo Eagle, Valorie O'Brien, Taylor Patterson, Bahar Sansar
and Rehana Murani did not take a seat on the bench for Denise Schilte-Brown.
USF, now 8-6-3 on the season and 5-3-2 in the BIG EAST, finish up the 2009
season on Sunday when they head to upstate to take on the Orange of Syracuse
on the Orange.
The Bulls could finish as high as 2nd or as low as 5th in the American
Division of the Big East. A second or third place finish would give the
Bulls a first round bye. With a 4th or 5th place finish the Bulls first
playoff game will be on Thursday October 29th.
