Brantley, Pyles Sweep SSC Player of the Week Honors
ORLANDO,
Fla. (Women’s Soccer) – Seniors
Teresa
Brantley and
Melissa Pyles
can add another accolade to their list of accomplishments as Florida Tech
Panthers after the pair were named Sunshine State Conference Players of the
Week on Monday. Brantley earned the league’s offensive award, and Pyles
captured the conference’s defensive honor.
Brantley knocked in two of the Panthers’ three goals in the team’s 3-1
victory over Nova Southeastern on Saturday. The native of Satellite Beach,
Fla. broke a 0-0 tie in the 27th minute by launching a beautiful shot into
the left corner of the goal. She then put the game away with her
team-leading ninth goal of the year in the 78th minute. Brantley has now
scored two goals in three games this season. The offensive player of the
week honor is her second of the season.
Pyles matched Brantley’s strong effort in goal against the Sharks. She
faced 11 shots and turned away six, while preventing several other
opportunities. With 14th-ranked Tech up by one goal, she made a terrific
diving save on a blast in the 74th minute to keep the Panthers ahead. Her
personal record for the season now stands at an impressive 10-2-0, and her
goals against average is a meager 0.80. Pyles’ defensive player of the week
selection is her first of the season.
Tech returns to action Tuesday for a non-conference match against Saint
Leo. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Rick Stottler Field.
