Brantley, Pyles Selected to Daktronics All-South Region
Team
MEMPHIS
(Women’s Soccer) – A pair of Florida Tech seniors earned another award on
Tuesday as
Teresa Brantley and
Melissa Pyles
were named to the Daktronics All-South Region Second Team for their
excellent play on the pitch during the 2009 season.
Brantley finished off her Panther career with a memorable year. The
forward from Satellite Beach, Fla. punched in 14 goals and dished out four
assists for a total of 32 points. Of her 14 tallies, three were
game-winning goals. She finished the regular season tied for first in the
Sunshine State Conference in goals and ranked second in points. For her
outstanding season, the conference awarded her with player and offensive
player of the year honors.
At the heart of the Panther defense was their netminder, Pyles, who
posted a sparkling 14-4-1 record in her final season. In 1,654 minutes, the
5-10 goalkeeper allowed only 15 goals for a rock-bottom 0.82 goals against
average. She also posted a .821 save percentage and nine shutouts. The
All-SSC Second Team honoree had the best goals against average and save
percentage in the conference at the conclusion of the regular season. Her
win total was tied for first.
West Florida led the region in selections as it totaled eight, seven of
which earned a spot on the first team. Argo forward Shakira Duncan claimed
South Region Player of the Year.
