Blue Devils Dominate Lake Gibson
photos from the game
After
two quick scores by the Blue Devil's Haley Carifi and Brittany Lajoie it
looked as if the rout was on. Even though Winter Haven dominated the
possession and Lake Gibson rarely got the ball into Winter Haven's territory
Lake Gibson did not give up. On a break away that seemed to be stopped by
the Blue Devil's, Gibson Senior Maddison Dixon intercepted a hurried pass
from a Winter Haven Defender and slipped the ball past the Blue Devil keeper
to cut the lead to 2 to 1 and make a game of it at 21 minutes remaining in
the first half.
Winter Haven would continue to dominate play the rest of the
half, pounding the Lake Gibson's Keeper. Blue Devil coach Scott Shot said
"We struggled to finish tonight." With less than two minutes remaining in
the half, Blue Devil senior Center Midfielder Katelyn Ober, who was a force
all game found a way to finish. She ripped a shot from 25 yards that sailed
over the leaping Gibson keeper and into the back of the net to make it 3 to
1 at half. Ober made the transition to Center Mid this year after playing
mostly forward in years past. Blue Devil's coach Scott Short said " We had
to move Katelyn around this year, I have to put her where I need her. Once I
put her their she said that is my job."
In the second half although the Blue Devils continued to
control much of the play, Lake Gibson had several more possessions into
Winter Haven territory. A couple of Gibson's shot looked as if they might
bring them back within one goal, but went harmlessly wide of net. With 8
minutes left in the game Blue Devils senior Briana Hunter would put the game
out of reach on a though ball that she chipped over the keeper to make the
final score 4 to 1.
The Blue Devils improve to 11-1-0 with their only defeat
coming to 2A powerhouse Tampa Prep. |
