Bishop Moore Wins Another District Title
Bishop Moore Hornets Girls Soccer Team won their 24th District Title
Saturday night @ Lake Highland. The Hornets overcame all odds to claim their
24th District Title. This was their first District Title back in Class 3A
against a familiar foe in Lake Highland. "Playing on that turf was a little
tough for us", stated Coach Bobby Hurring. "We came together as a team and I
am so proud of the girls efforts". The game was decided on a first half goal
by Nicole Fischer as she beat Lake Highland Goalkeeper, Shannon Taylor, to
the near post on a beautiful left-footed volley from about 20 yards. The
goal seemed to fire up the Hornets as they continued to pressure the Lake
Highland back line. A couple near misses and the score remained 1-0 at
halftime.
The Highlanders came out strong in the second half and almost had the
equalizer on a corner kick that Ellery Gainza headed wide. A couple
questionable calls by the referee gave the Highlanders 2 set pieces just
outside the box but Bishop Moore Goalkeeper Katelyn Koula was up to the
task. She punched the first one just up over the top and made an outstanding
save on the next to earn her 13th shutout. The Hornets then settled down and
played possession till the end to win their 24th District Title.
The Hornets next host Melbourne Central Catholic @ Memorial Stadium while
Lake Highland travels to face Satellite. |
