Atlanta Beat signs Stacy Bishop
Atlanta,
GA (Nov. 17, 2009) – Atlanta Beat General Manager Shawn McGee
announced free agent Stacy Bishop as the newest member of the expansion
team’s roster. Bishop is a midfielder from Land O Lakes, Florida, who spent
the 2009 Women’s Professional Soccer season with the Boston Breakers.
“Stacy is quite versatile,” said Beat Head Coach Gareth O’Sullivan. “I saw
her play for Boston last season, and she has some strong attacking
qualities. We are looking to use her as more of a holding midfielder
although she does give us many options going forward.”
“This really means a lot to me, and I realize that it is a special
opportunity," said Bishop. "This is something I always dreamed of doing as a
kid, so it’s pretty amazing to be able to do it for a living.”
Prior to playing in WPS, Bishop was a member of the U-23 National Team Pool
and was a W-League All-Eastern Conference selection. She played with two
Southeastern Conference Universities and earned All-SEC honors at both.
Bishop held a top five ranking in goals, assists and overall points at LSU
and then later became an NSCAA Academic All-American, a Soccerbuzz
All-American, and a MAC Herman Trophy Semi-finalist at the University of
Florida.
“Stacy has a great attitude and she wants to be successful in Atlanta,” said
Coach O’Sullivan. “She is a team player who will fit right in with all the
other girls. Plus, it’s great that she has WPS experience to draw upon as we
prepare for our 2010 season.” |
